Membership

Membership of the Society for Environmental Health of Nigeria

Membership is restricted to professionals working in the field of Environmental Health, Environmental Sciences, Public Health and related fields. They may include Environmental Health Officers, Public Health professionals, Sanitary Engineers, Environmental Scientists, Chemists and other professionals working within or associated with Environmental Health.

  2. Right to use the insignia fseh, mseh, cmseh, Imseh, gmseh, smseh, amseh, depending on the class of membership.
  3. Membership Certificate bearing the Society’s Seal.
  4. Updates on developments in Environmental Health and related subjects including policies, legislations, standards and research findings.
  5. Receipt of Society’s Journal and other Publications.
  6. Opportunity to publish scientific papers/research results in the Society’s Journal.
  7. Reduced rates at Society’s conferences and other events.
Classes of Membership/Qualification
The grades of membership open to interested persons shall depend on the experience and qualification of the individual. The following grades of membership exist.

Fellow (fseh)
  • A career in Environmental Health or related field with post qualification experience of not less than fifteen (15) years.
  • Doctoral, Masters or first degree in Environmental Health or related discipline. In all cases, the applicant MUST hold a first degree in either Environmental Health or related discipline.
Submission of a Scientific Paper to the Society on any aspect of Environmental Health, especially in specific area of a working experience, in a format obtainable from the National Secretary of the Society or the Editor of JEH.

Member (mseh)
  • A career in Environmental Health or related field.
  • First degree or acceptable Diploma and a Master’s degree in Environmental Health or related discipline with post qualification experience of not less than five (5) years.
Honorary Fellow (hfseh)        
  • Honorary Fellow of the Society shall be conferred on persons who have distinguished themselves in EH industry either in sound policy making, services or in contributing in one way or the other to the promotion of Environmental Health Practice.
  • Nomination for Honorary Fellow must be made to the Management Committee of the Society by at least 12 members of the Society.
Corporate Member (cmseh)
  • Corporate organizations (public or private) engaged in the design, construction, consultancy, operation, maintenance, cleaning and management of Environmental Health services or related field and subscribe to the objectives of the Society.
Licentiate Member (Imseh)
  • A career in Environmental Health or related field.
  • Royal Society of Health Diploma (RSH) or West Africa Health Examination Board (WAHEB) Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Environmental Health or related field and any other qualification approved by the Society.
Affiliate Member (amseh)
  • A career in Environmental Health related field with relevant qualification held for not less than 7 years.
Graduate Member (gmseh)
  • A graduate of Environmental Health or any related discipline with a first degree or its equivalent.
Student Member (smseh)
  • A person undertaking a course of study in an institution accredited by Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) or recognized by the Society.
Transfer/Upgrade of Membership
A member seeking transfer to a higher grade shall, within a period of five (5) years maintain a high level of commitment to the ideals of the Society and contribute consistently to the promotion and development of EH. Acquisition of additional higher qualification (credit experience) will be an added advantage.
Method of Application
  • An intending member of the Society shall obtain a membership form from the General Secretary of the Society on the payment of a non-refundable application fee of  N5,000.00 in the case of individual membership or N20,000.00 in the case of corporate membership. On completion, the form shall be returned to the Secretariat of the Society with a CV and photocopies of the relevant credentials of the applicant (or that of two representatives in case of corporate membership).
  • Membership Committee of the Society shall screen all applications and decide on the eligibility of the applicant and the class of membership qualified for. Based on the recommendation of the committee, the Society shall convey the acceptability or otherwise to the applicant and the registration/annual dues payable (either by a bank draft or bank transfer to the Society’s bank accounts)
  • On receipt of the prescribed fees, a formal letter of admittance to membership shall be sent to the applicant conveying membership number, a copy of the Society’s Code of Conduct, the constitution and a date and venue of induction into the Society.

Annual subscription fee entitles a member to the continued membership of the Society, receipt of the society’s journal (JEH); publication of scientific papers in the Society’s Journal and rebate for the Society’s Conferences, Workshop and other activities, and use of insignia.
